Domestic Bootcamp

{November 9, 2007}   Introducing moi

I’m writing this blog to chronicle the ups and downs of my attempts at learning the art of being “domestic”. This isn’t about being someone’s doormat, please no. It’s about learning what they just don’t teach in school any more. What’s the use of having your B.A. if you’re stuck eating out, having to hire Merry Maids every time you want company, and having to pay a tailor to fix the busted seams on your clothes?

So I’m learning the stuff that seemed to come easy for our grannies. Most of the time, I fail. But I’m learning and it’s a pretty hilarious process.

I like the idea of your blog, and you’re right, domesticity has nothing at all to do with being a doormat!

You are going to be fun to read! Don’t think of it as failure, but learning the fun way!

my dearest “moi”, it is wonderful to see someone trying in this art! Myself, I have started a quilt, yet it has lain, unquilted, for three years. At any rate, I wish you luck on your dress and your blog (my sister pointed me in this direction — but what are relatives for?)

Anyway, keep at it, and learn a great recipe for Christmas!

i like your blog idea, domesticbootcamp. i think many of us are reclaiming domesticity, choosing it on our own terms. i’m looking forward to reading more about your ups and downs with it. i love so many crafting blogs, but sometimes all that constant perfection makes my head hurt! good luck to you…
